Ongoing Grassroots
Vegan Outreach

A young D.C. tourist stops on his way to the museums to visit COK's Factory Farming Exhibit on the National Mall
More than 10 billion animals are killed for human consumption annually in the United States. The vast majority of animal exploitation in this country occurs at the hands of the meat, egg, and dairy industries. More significantly, the institutionalized cruelties suffered by farmed animals are far worse than most other animal abusive practices. Yet, this vast amount of suffering is utterly preventable. Farmed animals are killed only because of consumer demand. As such, promoting veganism ought to be the primary focus of the American animal rights movement.

While COK's investigation and rescue helped promote nonviolent eating, our ongoing vegan outreach campaign is still going strong.

Each Sunday, COK's Factory Farming Exhibit on the National Mall is erected, exposing the myths about "food" production to thousands of people. This outreach effort has been aided by the volunteered time of dozens of activists who spend hours talking with visitors to the exhibit.

In addition, COK's feed-in program, where free vegan burgers and literature are distributed in front of fast food restaurants, still operates monthly (if not more frequently). The feed-ins always generate much positive exposure to veganism, encouraging one-on-one contact with the public as they hear about the multiple benefits of a vegan diet. Activists also maintain a silent vigil during feed-ins to draw more attention to the plight of farmed animals killed for our plates.
