If you're looking for veg-friendly fare when dining out in Austin, you're not alone. The popularity of vegetarian eating is on the rise! According to a Zogby International survey, 57 percent of all restaurant-goers "sometimes, often, or always," order a vegetarian item when dining out, and a National Restaurant Association poll reveals that as many as 30 percent of diners "want to eat vegetarian meals."
This increased consumer demand for meat-free meals has prompted countless eateries in the area—from fast-food to four-star—to include a variety of vegetarian options on their menus. And you can now find it all at a click of a button. Compassion Over Killing, a national nonprofit animal advocacy charity based in Washington, D.C., is excited to announce the release of VegAustin.com, a free online vegetarian dining guide for the Lone Star state's capital city.
"A growing number of people from coast to coast are choosing vegetarian foods as a way to protect their health, the planet, and animals. And restaurants everywhere are catching on," said Erica Meier, executive director of Compassion Over Killing. "Austin may be known as Longhorn country, but it's also home to dozens of eclectic cafes and popular restaurants offering delicious vegetarian-friendly menus."
VegAustin.com also features a restaurant of the month, area news reports about vegetarian eating, and a calendar of local events. Compassion Over Killing also maintain similar online guides for other cities, including VegDC.com and VegPortland.com.
