Vegan Feed-In at a KFC in Washington, D.C. for National Chicken Month: September 23, 2006

On September 23, 2006, a dozen COK activists hosted two successful vegetarian feed-ins in Washington, D.C.—one in front of a KFC (also near a McDonald’s) and another close to a busy Metro station.

September is National Chicken Month, so in addition to sampling delicious “chicken” drumsticks, passersby were also provided with information about the routine abuses in the chicken industry along with pro-vegetarian literature, recipes, and veg-friendly restaurant listings.

Below are some photos from the day’s events.

A COK volunteer offers passersby vegetarian “chicken” drumsticks.
After sampling the meatless “chicken” drumstick, a Metropolitan police officer is delightfully surprised by the taste.
A large banner attracts passersby to the feed-in.
COK volunteers help spread the animals’ message with a banner on a busy street corner.
People driving by stop to get information after seeing COK’s banners.
A bicyclist stops to get some literature and talk with a COK volunteer after taking a free sample of vegetarian “chicken.”

Altogether, nearly 100 samples of animal-friendly food were given away and more than 500 copies of our Vegetarian Starter Guide and Vegetarian Guide to Washington, D.C. and Surrounding Areas were distributed.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this event a huge success!
