Update: Marathon for Compassion is a Win for Animals!
COK supporter, Myke Boss, ran 26.2 miles and raised $5,000
On March 1, 2009, COK supporter Myke Boss ran 26.2 miles in the Gasparilla Distance Classic in Tampa, Fla.. For Myke, this was more than just a race: he dedicated this marathon, which he nicknamed the Marathon for Compassion, to COK!
In the weeks leading up the race, Myke not only spent countless hours training for the marathon, but he also raised $2,500 to fund our farmed animal advocacy effort. What’s more, Myke’s $2,500 was generously matched by Rory Freedman, co-author of Skinny Bitch, who was impressed by Myke’s kindhearted decision to run on behalf of farmed animals. In all, the Marathon for Compassion raised $5,000 for COK—thank you Myke and Rory!

Name: Myke Boss
Age: 27
Home: Bowie, Md., where I live with my dog Gabby, the most beautiful and sweet dog ever.
Vegan for: 1½ years
Marathon experience: This was my second marathon. The first marathon I did was Oct. 2008—the Baltimore Marathon.
Why I ran this Marathon for Compassion: I thought about all the different causes people run for, and I thought why not run for an animal advocacy group? And I really wanted to find a special way that I could help. Running is a personal and important thing for me, and so is being vegan; so it just fit. |
