Exciting Campaign Updates: Morningstar Farms & Lightlife to use even fewer eggs in 2009!

Compassion Over Killing is thrilled to share some exciting updates on our efforts to work with Morningstar Farms and Lightlife Foods to remove eggs from their products and offer more vegan options: both companies have just announced plans to use even fewer eggs in 2009!

In December 2007, shortly after COK and Vegan Outreach teamed up to urge Morningstar Farms to stop using eggs, the company committed to reducing its use of eggs by at least one million in 2008. According to this recent statement, Morningstar Farms is now committed to reducing its use of eggs even more in 2009:

“Morningstar Farms has committed to reducing its egg usage by an estimated 500,000 eggs in 2009, which is in addition to the already 1 million fewer eggs in 2008.”

Additionally, in December 2008, we told you about Lightlife’s compassionate decision to reduce its use of eggs by 166,000 in 2009 and to introduce three new vegan options this spring. The company has more good news to share—it’s now committed to removing eggs from two more products, for a total of five new vegan items in 2009:

“Egg whites are being removed from two more Lightlife products.  Both our Veggie burger and Mushroom burgers are being converted to vegan products with a completion date of June 1, 2009.”

In February 2009, Compassion Over Killing teamed up with Mercy for Animals and the Animal Protection and Rescue League to urge BOCA to stop using eggs. Learn more about this ongoing campaign at BocaEggFacts.com.
