VegFest 2010: DC VegFest Doubles in Size!
On Sept. 11, 2010, more than 5,000 visitors joined us at the DC VegFest, making this event—the largest vegetarian celebration in the nation’s capital—twice as large as last year’s festival! And twice as many people means twice as much fun.
Crowds gathered well before the event’s start time of noon in hopes of snagging one of the 400 free DC VegFest 2010 commemorative bags loaded with free product samples. All 400 bags were given away in less than 10 minutes, and with the event just underway, festival-goers quickly turned their attention to the more than 60 exhibitors spread out over University Yard at George Washington University.
Non-profit exhibitors offered visitors everything from tips about living more compassionately and sustainably to vegan fitness and nutrition while commercial vendors were selling cookbooks, animal-friendly clothing, vegan dog treats, body care products, and more. For food, the options ranged from freshly made falafel sandwiches and nachos loaded with toppings to Ethiopian and Indian Cuisine to decadent vegan desserts. Throughout the venue, free vegan food stations were set up offering samples of Gardein “beef” tips, Field Roast “sausages,” Coconut Bliss dairy-free ice cream as well as nacho “cheese” and crackers.
The event also included inspiring stories from motivating speakers, informative and energetic cooking demonstrations from top vegan chefs, and book signings from several authors. Kids celebrated too by dancing with a smiling giant carrot and getting their faces painted as their favorite animal!
DC VegFest 2010 was tremendous success thanks to all the support from our generous sponsors, wonderful exhibitors, amazing volunteers, and, of course, the thousands of attendees who came out to discover and celebrate the many benefits of vegetarian eating.
