Vegan Cookie Feed-in (June 8, 2010)

On Tuesday, June 8, Compassion Over Killing volunteers hosted another sweet success: a vegan chocolate chip cookie feed-in at the Columbia Heights Metro station in Washington, DC! Everyone from high school students to commuters to shoppers loved our vegan chocolate chip cookies and were surprised and delighted when they learned that these decadent treats were egg- and dairy-free. The cookies were such a hit, several people stopped their cars in the road to get a vegan cookie and some of COK’s pro-veg literature! In less than a half an hour, all 100 cookies were devoured!

But we didn’t stop once the cookies were gone. Led by COK’s Volunteer Outreach Coordinator Brook, we continued to distribute our literature until we handed out over 1,000 pro-veg brochures!

Tuesday, June 8 also doubled as a COK benefit day at the nearby all-vegan Sticky Fingers Bakery, and while passing out cookies, our volunteers eagerly directed passersby to this bakery where they could indulge in even more delicious vegan treats—while also supporting our efforts to help animals!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make this event a huge success - and thank you to VegFund for making this vegan feed-in possible!

Thank you, Brook, for baking these amazing cookies!
Everyone who tried a vegan cookie also received a free Vegetarian Starter Guide.
Lauren, COK’s Outreach Intern, offers a commuter a copy of the Vegetarian Guide to DC.
Brook, COK’s Volunteer Outreach Coordinator, offers copies of Easy Vegan Recipes to encourage people to try vegan cooking on their own.
People were thrilled to receive a free chocolate chip cookie!
Our banner offering free food caught the eye of people walking and driving by.
