Vegan Bake Sale in honor of National Doughnut Day (June 4, 2010)
On Fri., June 4, in Washington, DC, Compassion Over Killing hosted a vegan bake sale in honor of National Doughnut Day and to encourage people to urge Dunkin’ Donuts to offer a vegan doughnut. COK volunteers woke up early, set up outside of the busy Takoma Metro station, and helped passersby start the day in a compassionate way: with homemade vegan doughnuts, cookies, banana nut bread and muffins! Many commuters were amazed by the myriad of delicious animal-friendly choices, and one woman was so delighted by the delicious baked goods that she bought enough treats to take to her whole office! In addition to the decadent morning treats, we distributed our pro-vegetarian literature including our Dunkin' Exposed flyer and Easy Vegan Recipes.
To top off the already sweet and successful morning, we were honored to have a special guest stop by - DC's Mayor Adrian Fenty. Major Fenty, who wrote a letter of recognition for the DC VegFest in 2009, gladly accepted a vegan doughnut and Veg Guide to DC and Surrounding Areas!
Thank you to our COK Outreach Interns who baked everything for this great event!
Thank you Vegan Yum Yum for your delicious doughnut recipe!
