Free Vegan Dinner and Film Screening at the University of Maryland (February 24, 2010)
On Wednesday, February 24, 2010, Compassion Over Killing teamed up with the University of Maryland's VegTerps and Terps For Animal Welfare to co-host a free vegan dinner and screening of McLibel. More than two dozen attendees feasted on veggie burgers, popcorn, and cookies-a healthier, vegan version of the McDonald's staples-while watching the documentary.
McLibel highlights the many reasons these campus groups are campaigning to remove McDonald's from the University of Maryland campus. Chronicling a court case between McDonald's Restaurant and two activists, McLibel shows how Morris and Steel took on the fast food giant in the longest trial in English legal history-and won, proving McDonald's is cruel to animals, bad for our health, and is destroying the environment. After viewing the documentary, students learned how to get involved with the campaign on campus and about the many benefits of vegetarian eating.
Thank you to everyone who helped organize this fantastic event-we couldn't have done it without you!
