Feed-In at the National Book Festival (September 26, 2009)

On Saturday, September 26, 2009, despite the warning of rain, COK volunteers headed to the National Book Festival to host a feed-in, giving book lovers some animal-friendly food and reading material. We handed out over 200 pieces of orange "chicken" and over 1,000 pieces of literature in one hour! This open-minded crowd happily ate up all of the food, while offering us great feedback, from "This is great—I just went veg" to "I had no idea how good vegan food could be!"

People were literally waiting in line to get copies of our Easy Vegan Recipes. One woman even walked across the Mall to get a copy when a volunteer ran out.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who made this feed-in such a success!

Many of our volunteers on Saturday had never hosted a feed-in before. We'd love to see you whether you've volunteered before or not! If you'd like to get involved, please send us an email at info@cok.net.

COK volunteer, Cathy, greets festival-goers with our Vegetarian Guide To Washington, D.C.
The dismal weather didn't stop our volunteers from reaching out to the receptive crowd!
COK's Outreach Intern, Nicole, offers a piece of orange "chicken" to a happy passerby.
Festival goers enjoyed trying the new food and were ready to read anything!
