Thank you for sanctuary story

Thanks for publishing staff writer Karen Miltner's wonderfully thoughtful and extensive account of her visit to Farm Sanctuary ("Vegan vacation," Aug. 22 story). The chickens, cows, pigs and other animals who live at such sanctuaries are the lucky ones who defy the odds, escaping certain death — we kill almost 10 billion of their counterparts for food each year in the United States. Thankfully, we can choose to end the cruelty and suffering that creates a need for places like Farm Sanctuary by choosing more plant-based foods; we can stand up for animals every time we sit down to eat.
