Americans can prevent overuse of drugs in farm animals by not eating meat

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
July 22, 2009

Thank you for advocating for restrictions on the use of antibiotics for healthy farmed animals ("Agricultural misuse of antibiotics threatens human health," July 21 editorial). Factory farm operators overuse antibiotics because farmed animals live in cramped, filthy conditions where the bottom line is the only consideration; the potential for the development of new, antibiotic-resistant bacteria is staggeringly high. Thankfully, Americans can stand up for animals -- and stand up against the rampant overuse of drugs -- every time we sit down to eat, by choosing plant-based, cruelty-free foods.
