Done Correctly, vegan diet provides ample daily iron

The Post
October 15,  2008

I enjoyed reading about Conscious Ohio’s weekly healthy vegan lunches. However, the article may have perpetuated the common misconception that plant-based diets are deficient in iron. In fact, a balanced vegan diet, including beans, grains and leafy greens, easily provides adequate iron. According to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, “Studies have shown that the incidence of iron deficiency anemia is not greater among individuals consuming a healthy vegetarian diet than among those who eat meat.”
