Kudos to Takoma Park council for stand on foie gras, #4

Gazette
July 9, 2008

As a newcomer to Takoma Park, I attended my first City Council meeting this past week during which a resolution was passed by unanimous decision opposing the production of foie gras.

What a heartwarming experience to see our representatives take progressive action against inhumane treatment of animals!

Being a former resident of California where a law was passed in 2004 banning the sale and production of foie gras, I’m aware of how this cruelty-laden pate is produced (www.GourmetCruelty.com). Ducks and geese are force fed huge quantities of food — causing tremendous suffering as their livers swell and become diseased.

It was clear as I listened to our City Council members that we are represented by compassionate and ethical people. I’m proud to live in a city that encourages kindness toward animals, treasures our trees, and where concern for injustice is a priority.

Thank you Takoma Park City Council!

Rose Nealon, Takoma Park
