Greenbelt News-Review
May 22, 2008

Thank you for the Brian St. George informative article “Factory Farms are Focus of ‘Feed-In’ at the Library” (May 15). As one of the event organizers, I’d also like to express my appreciation to the Greenbelt Library for allowing Compassion over Killing to host this successful event.

It’s wonderful that more than 50 people came to enjoy a free vegetarian meal and learn more about how our food choices impact our health, the planet and the billions of animals raised for food each year in the U.S. To most people’s surprise, farmed animals are denied adequate legal protection and are routinely treated like mere meat-, milk- and egg-producing machines. Having spent more than three years as an animal control officer in D.C., I am certain that if the same abuses forced upon farmed animals were inflicted upon the dogs and cats with whom we share our homes, it would lead to criminal prosecution.

Thankfully, choosing vegetarian foods in Greenbelt and around the metro region is easier than ever – just visit www.VegDC.com to get started today!
