Vegan Diet Good for Health as Well as Moral Well-being

I was thrilled to read “Vegans find health benefits with an animal-friendly lifestyle” (Oct. 21). Vondell Stephenson’s inspiring story sheds light on the growing interest nationwide for healthier and more humane foods.

Fortunately, it’s easier than ever to find vegan options in restaurants and grocery stores everywhere. Online resources, such as TryVeg.com and VegRecipes.org, offer invaluable information as well as tons of free animal-friendly recipes. And there is no need to sacrifice taste or variety. Choosing vegan foods allows you to explore an endless variety of savory and satisfying meal options.

In addition to protecting our health, a vegan diet also helps protect animals. Billions of farmed animals suffer each year simply for us to eat, and most are raised under extremely cruel conditions. Egg-laying hens, for example, are so intensively confined inside wire cages, they can barely move and are denied the ability to engage in many of their most natural behaviors.

The great news is that, one vegan meal at a time, we can help save ourselves and countless animals.
