Switch to a Diet Free of Cholesterol and Cruelty—Vegetarianism

Published in The Northwest Indiana Times on August 3, 2003.

I appreciated the delicious recipes in the “Easy Grilling Ideas for Vegetarians” [July 23] article.

The summer months are the perfect time to try new foods, and vegetarian meals are a terrific choice for health-conscious consumers. In fact, vegetarian diets have been shown to lower cholesterol levels as well as prevent serious illnesses, such as heart disease and various cancers.

Enjoying vegetarian fare is also a simple and effective way to prevent animal suffering and the environmental damage caused by the meat, egg, and dairy industries.

With so many new meatless products on the market, it’s hard to think of a better time to transition to a diet free from both cholesterol and cruelty.
