Many birds die in such debilitating conditions.		COK investigators found many dead birds in cages with live hens.		This dead hen was removed from a cage with live birds.
In the egg industry, an 11 percent mortality rate is considered acceptable.		A pile of dead hens was found at the end of one of the sheds.		Left for dead, this injured hen was found unable to stand or access food or water.
