Thousands of hens are crammed into wire cages stacked four tiers high.   They will spend their entire lives intensively confined.   Each hen has less living space than the size of a sheet of notebook paper.

   
Many birds suffer from severe feather loss.   Feces from the cages above often fall into the cages below.   Here's another hen whose back is covered in feces.

   
COK investigators saw many mice in the sheds, like this one here, resting on a hen's back   These hens will never set foot outside, let alone build nests, dust bathe, or forage.   This picture was taken from the manure pits below the cages.
