Forget Friday—Meatless Monday is our favorite day of the week. Especially now that the entire City of Angels is celebrating its FIRST Meatless Monday, after the Los Angeles City Council unanimously passed a “Meatless
Monday” resolution!

Compassion Over Killing worked closely with council members to develop this initiative, and we applaud them for encouraging residents to choose meat-free foods at least once a week as a way to help protect their health, the environment, and animals.

Media across the country, including The Today Show, USA Today, Los Angeles Daily News, New York Daily News, Huffington Post, LAist, Examiner, NBC, Fox, and ABC, have picked up the news, spreading the Meatless Monday message far and wide. More than 50% of Americans are familiar with Meatless Monday, and 18% are already participating. This exciting campaign sweeping the nation is clearly more than a trend—it’s a community effort to build a kinder, cleaner, and healthier world, with the simple act of choosing vegetarian foods.

Supporters of Meatless Monday include Emily Deschanel, who talked with COK about the benefits of choosing plant-based foods:
